THE SERVICE, EXPLAINED

A firewall and remote-access implementation translates business access needs into controlled network rules and approved connection methods. It should consider users, devices, applications, authentication and administration rather than simply enabling a VPN. The right approach depends on the resources being accessed and the capabilities of the selected platforms.

Where would you like to start?

WHAT WE DO

A defined scope for your business.

Some staff need one cloud application; others need controlled access to an internal system. Those are different requirements. ITZ reviews the intended users and resources, current network and available identity controls before defining an implementation scope.

This service focuses on configuration and access delivery. The broader Cybersecurity service helps prioritise risks across the environment. Penetration testing, incident response, compliance certification and continuous security monitoring require separate, explicitly defined engagements.

01

Access requirements

Identify authorised users, required destinations, relevant applications and administrative responsibilities.

02

Design and compatibility

Review firewall capability, identity integration, authentication options, endpoint support and licensing.

03

Approved implementation

Configure the agreed policies and connection method within a controlled change window.

04

Verification and handover

Test allowed and denied access scenarios, record configuration and confirm update and review ownership.

MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE

The right approach depends on the problem.

Choose the right starting point
Your situation A suitable approach What we confirm first
Staff need access only to cloud tools Assess application and identity access first Whether a network VPN is actually necessary
Users need an internal business application Scope a controlled remote-access method Application support, identity, devices and authentication
A firewall is being replaced Plan a managed configuration transition Existing rules, subscriptions, change window and rollback feasibility

DETAILS THAT MATTER

A working connection is not the whole security test.

Acceptance should include what users must be able to reach and what they must not reach. Review administrative access separately from ordinary staff access, and assign an owner for account removal, software updates and policy review. Multifactor authentication for remote and privileged access should be considered as part of the design and platform capability review.

For example, a staff member who needs one internal application should not automatically receive broad access to all office systems. Document the approved destinations and test the relevant restrictions. A VPN protects a connection in transit but does not by itself establish that the connecting device is healthy or that every account is appropriately authorised. Remote access must be revisited when people, applications or devices change.

Identity

Access is tied to authorised people and appropriate authentication.

Boundaries

Approved applications and destinations are explicitly defined.

Operations

Updates, rule reviews and leaver access have named owners.

DELIVERY PROCESS

Assessment, approved work and verification.

  1. 01

    Define the access boundary

Document people, devices, applications and approval owners.

  2. 02

    Confirm the design

Review platform capability, licences and authentication dependencies.

  3. 03

    Implement approved controls

Make agreed changes with an authorised interruption window.

  4. 04

    Test and hand over

Check permitted and restricted access and record operating responsibilities.

COSTS & DELIVERABLES

Compare the scope, not just the headline price.

What affects the proposal?

  • Users, sites, remote-access needs and traffic requirements
  • Firewall equipment, subscriptions and authentication dependencies
  • Existing configuration quality and application compatibility
  • Change windows, validation depth and ongoing management scope

Availability, access, third-party dependencies and the agreed service hours are confirmed before work begins. No response time or outcome is implied by submitting an enquiry.

What you should receive

  • An agreed access design and implementation scope
  • Records of approved firewall and remote-access changes
  • Tests of relevant permitted and restricted scenarios
  • Configuration ownership, update responsibilities and known limitations

The proposal defines the deliverables and acceptance checks included in your engagement.

What may need a separate quotation?
  • Equipment, provider charges and security subscriptions
  • Penetration testing, incident response and certification
  • Continuous monitoring and ongoing management unless agreed

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers before you commit.

Does this replace the broader cybersecurity review?

No. It addresses a defined network-access implementation. A broader review may also cover email, endpoints, backups, staff processes and incident preparation.

Can any firewall support every authentication method?

No. Features depend on model, software, subscriptions, identity integration and client devices. Compatibility is confirmed before recommending a configuration.

Is ongoing monitoring included?

Only if explicitly scoped. Implementation handover does not imply a 24/7 security operations service or continuous incident monitoring.
